17:00 – Her Daughter – Milda Varnauskaité (LIT)

Are children destined to repeat the lives of their parents, or can they break out of the generational vicious circle? „Her Daughter“ is a modern retelling of perhaps the most popular Lithuanian tale, “Spruce, the Queen of Serpents”. In Milda’s interpretation, the relationship between the mothers and daughters is at the centre of the story as in the popular version women lack the power to define themselves. It is a story about the courage to be oneself and the ability to find oneself again after being lost. ”Her Daughter” is a tale with feminist overtones that contains both humour and wisdom. It is filled with female empowerment, however, the exciting story also depicts injustice and abuse. Welcome to the shores of the Baltic Sea where the secrets of the Underwater Palace are revealed…

15:00 – At the beginning of everything – Dominika Šindelková, Storytelling.cz

Stories of Creation from various mythologies for young and old listeners. Listen to the story of what was when there was nothing. The stories about the origin of the world were the most beautiful and important stories in the whole world. They may have been the very first stories the world had ever heard. The whole village around the fire enthusiastically devoured the words of a philosopher, a shaman or the most skilful storyteller and formed a common idea of the world. But these stories are also evidence of the infinitely colorful and powerful human imagination. Do you know the giant Ymir, who was born in an empty void and one day his armpits began to itch terribly? Do you know how the goddess Maya invented the game so that the omniscient Brahma would not be so bored? And what happened in the forge shrouded in mystery, where darkness meets emptiness? No? So listen to the story of what was when there was nothing.

In 1348 a terrible pandemic of black plague broke throughout Europe, hitting Italy very hard, but the story collector Giovanni Boccaccio, here proposes a very peculiar antidote to the disease and the sadness brought by it: a celebration of humour and the pleasure of the flesh!
